Canine Sleepover Program
The Canine Sleepover Program allows adoptable dogs from Michigan Humane to spend time outside the shelter in a loving home environment.
Sleepovers typically last one night but may extend up to a week depending on the dog and participant availability. These short breaks help dogs relax, reduce stress, and show their true personalities—while also increasing their chances of adoption.
Participants can share photos and experiences from the sleepover, helping more dogs find their forever homes.
How the Program Works
Visit one of our adoption centers in Detroit, Westland, or Sterling Heights during open hours.
Meet our adoptable dogs and choose one you’re interested in.
Notify our customer service team, who will explain program guidelines and the dog’s specific needs.
We provide all necessary supplies for the sleepover period.
A return date and time will be scheduled in advance based on the length of the sleepover.
If you have another dog at home, you may bring them for a meet-and-greet. Owned dogs are not allowed on the adoption floor, so we recommend bringing a second person with you. If needed, our staff can assist.
Program Requirements
To participate, you must:
Be 18 years of age or older
Sign a foster agreement, liability waiver, and confidentiality agreement
Follow all policies and guidelines provided by staff
Return the dog at the scheduled date and time
Pick up and return dogs only during Michigan Humane open hours
Complete pick-up and return at least one hour before closing time
- Not all dogs are eligible for sleepovers. Puppies under four months are not permitted, and small dogs are typically not included unless part of a potential adoption.
